13 TRAVEL-WORTHY TOILETRIES UNDER 3 DOLLARS
It’s 2019 and we all need to travel more and acquire the best of the best travel worthy toiletries. Sometimes traveling means ditching your beloved full-sized toiletries and opting for mini’s that might not always be your go-to-brand equivalent. It’s a concept I’m not entirely keen of, but retail stores have actually upped their game when it comes to travel-sized commodities. You might even find yourself grabbing a mini before you sample the real deal. I’ve done it and my hair will never be the same — in the best way possible. I’m just glad we’ve finally overcome the 3oz fluid trap imposed by airlines (I’m all for safety) confining us to generic products that merely “get the job done.” Below are 13 of my absolute game changing favorites.
#1 | Soap & Glory Vitamin C Face Wash
Packing, transporting to the airport, getting through security, boarding the plane, spending countless hours on the plane trying to sleep, read, eat, drink, tune out the crying babies, deplaning and transporting to your hotel or hostel certainly takes its toll on your skin. It’s nothing a bit of Soap & Glory’s Vitamin C Face Wash can’t cure. I bought this and pretty much immediately after trying it, was ready to jump back in the car and go get the full size. Here’s why: it smells awesome—citrusy and plant-like, its gel-like texture is soothing and softening to the skin, and once you’re done your face is clean, plump and refreshed. Oh and added bonus, a little bit goes a long way which decreases the odds of you running out of face wash while traveling.
#2 | Raw Sugar Simply Body Wash
After being on a plane, I want to shower… because I’m a total germaphobe. What I don’t want, is to slather sulfates and parabens on myself in efforts to cleanse. I’ve searched high and low for travel-sized body washes that are as close to organic and cruelty free as can be. Raw Sugar Simply Body Wash made the cut with flying colors (but no dyes, wink, wink.) The smell is coconut-ty and tropical but not overpowering and you feel clean and soft after use. PS – if you’re like me and a simple wash cloth won’t do, grab an exfoliating loofah from Big Lots for $1. It makes all the difference and dries very quickly.
#3, 4 & 5 | Beyond Belief Body Scrub & Clay Mask
Sometimes it’s a challenge to squeeze a spa day into an itinerary because there are just so many things we want to see and not enough time, BUT that doesn’t mean you can’t get some spa treatments in. My trick is to bring a body scrub (that you can also use on your face) and a mask. I use the scrub in the shower, and do a quick mask before bed or better yet, after waking up.
These next travel worthy toiletries go by the names of Beyond Belief Body Scrubs & Clay Masks and are the perfect size for travel & multiple uses. The coffee scrub is THE BEST for the morning, especially if you love coffee since the smell wakes you right up and the caffeine awakes your skin to give you a brightening effect. The salt scrub is so moisturizing and is great for a beachy trip where your skin tends to dry out after being in the sun. Confession: I love anything with bergamot in it. It’s known to lift your mood, increase your energy and it smells citrusy and woodsy. For all these reasons, I love the clay mask. It rejuvenates and leaves your skin so soft. I could go on all day, but I’ll spare you.
#6 & 7 | Native & Dove Deodorants
Only recently did I start seeing all natural (or as I call it – as close to organic as I can find) travel sized deodorants in stores. Native deodorant was the first one I tried and really liked. It goes on smooth, doesn’t leave residue, lasts me for the day and smells like coconut and vanilla. Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant is what I was using before because it allegedly lasts 48 hours and has a refreshing cucumber & baby powder scent. Though I’ve never pushed the 48 hour limit, it’s a nice-to-have if you’re on an outdoor adventure trip.
#8 & 9 | Love, Beauty & Planet Shampoo & Conditioner
These will go down in history as the shampoo and conditioner that changed my life. Not kidding. I tried the sample size, went back and bought the full size. Let’s start with the fact that these travel worthy toiletries are environmentally friendly, the bottles are made from recycled plastic, are vegan, cruelty free, no silicones, no parabens, no dyes, no sulfates and like the bottle says, no guilt. I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again, I’m living for that heavenly coconut water & mimosa flower scent. The shampoo cleanses my scalp and makes my hair silky smooth and voluminous and the conditioner is lightweight and moisturizing. Simply put, these are the best.
#10 | Not Your Mother’s Clean Freak Dry Shampoo
Short, sweet and to the point— I’ve used the full sized version for forever. Target now has a travel size. It’s god’s gift to day old unwashed hair.
#11&12 | Oral B, Smile Pro & Plackers
You shouldn’t neglect your gums — straight from the pretty woman we all love, #JuliaRoberts. I know these are so basic but, I love that you can get a Smilepro toothpaste and toothbrush duo for under a dollar. Plus, the Oral B Floss and Plackers are so cute, compact and a perfect match for your toiletry bag.
#13 | Dr. Bronner’s Organic Lip Balm
I thought I was a Burt’s Bees lifer, but then Dr. Bronner’s balm landed on my lips and I was converted for life. It’s organic, and immediately addresses and combats any existing lip issues. My lips are sensitive and actually used to dry out a lot. Once I started using this, which was over a year ago, I haven’t had chapped lips since. No exaggeration, I promise. I’m one of those people who expect not to like products because I’m picky.
Congrats you’ve made it to the end of my travel worthy toiletries novel. I hope these liven up your next trip! As a bonus for making it this far, you can download my toiletry bag packing list here:
